OK, I used the Quick-Search to find several freqs here on the Air Force Base, several that were not listed here in the database. Now, how do I view the talkgroup IDs when the scanner stops on the frequency?

The scanner shows me the freq: 409.3750
The scanner tells me the mode: NFM
The scanner even tells me it’s P25

If I could see the ID, I can use the info I’m hearing to associate it with a particular user.

Help?

Mainsail-

To toggle between the freq/talkgroup and your text tag, press HOLD, and then hit FUNC + 5

That's all there is to it. Hope that helps.

You have to enter the system as a trunked system into your scanner, it won't automatically trunktrack from search mode.

Actually, if you turn on C-Ch Search, when the scanner finds the control channel during search it will begin to trunk track the system. The TGID is issued as part of the channel grant on the system (the channel grant is sent on the control channel). You can't get the TGID for a comm on a voice channel by just sitting on that voice channel.

I don't want to toggle between the freq/talkgroup and the text tag. I want to view the talkgroup ID when I'm doing a search. Since I'm searching, there isn't even a text tag entered yet.

Can you elaborate? I don’t know what C_Ch search is, and I don’t see that anywhere in the manual.

How can I view the talkgroup ID? I want to be able to listen to specific users, not the entire base.

I didn't know he was referring to one of the Unidens with that function - I just though he was running a standard search...

OK, let’s try this again. Right now I’m scanning (not searching) the trunked McChord freqs. I’m hearing transportation, cops, fire, and maintenance. I would like to set up a system with JUST the cops and fire but I don’t know the IDs for just those two users.

How do I view the IDs so I can do that? Is that even possible?

When the scanner stops on a transmission, it displays the ID. When you hear a group of interest, write down the ID along with its associated description (Alpha Tag...you'll have to supply that).

Then, add those TGIDs with tags to channels in your current system. Now, when the scanner stops on those channels, it will display your alpha tags instead of the numbers. To make the scanner ignore all the traffic you haven't stored into channels, while the scanner is scanning that system, press SCAN to toggle between ID SEARCH mode (where it stops on traffic for all TGIDs that aren't locked out) and ID SCAN mode (where it only stops on TGIDs you've stored).

I'm assuming that it is the system here, and that you are looking for channels that aren't listed (there are only 4...which you could go ahead and program into the scanner).

Thanks UP!

Yes, I tried those four IDs but they don’t seem to work. I also found a few more freqs in the 413MHz range while parked outside the cop shack here on the base with Close Call turned on.

I am not seeing the ID when the scanner stops. I pressed Funct + 5 to toggle off the alpha tags so now I see the freqs and the system name, but no IDs. So I am assuming that the ID would be up at the top of the display where the System Name is now, if I hadn’t entered an Alpha Tag for that system. Either way, I don’t see the IDs anywhere.

Should I be doing it from a Control Channel search? If so, how do I do that? I can find the Control Channel, but I can’t find any reference to this type of search in the manual.

I’m getting some flak from my co-workers here because the audio from the cops is so low that I have to turn up the volume, but Maint is so freaking loud it’s disturbing everyone.

You need to program the system in as a Motorola Type II system with the parameters shown in the database. You have just programmed the frequencies conventionally...which isn't going to get you what you want.

That may be the problem. I set up the system as APCO25 because my other choice, Motorola Type II was for 800MHz. So I need to change it over to Motorola Type II 800, right?

I loaded the software on my home computer instead of my laptop, so I can’t fiddle with it until I get home. If we can get this figured out, I’ll buy you a beer next time you’re in Tacoma.

Ok, now I have it working! I’ve found 12 additional talkgroup IDs above what’s listed here on the site, and am attempting to identify the users.

One additional question; If it stops on a talkgroup ID that I have positively identified, can I hit lockout to eliminate that ID for the time being, or will that lockout the frequency displayed (which is the control channel) instead of the ID.

If you lock out the TGID, it will no longer stop on that ID. L/O while scanning a trunked system has no effect on the tuned frequencies, only the TGIDs.
