The National NC-60 Special is an AC / DC superheterodyne communications receiver designed to receive AM (voice and music) or CW (code-telegraphy) or SSB (single sideband) using a beat frequency oscillator. While good for CW, it is not as good at SSB reception. It does not have a tuned RF amplifier stage before the main tuning and mixer oscillator. The circuit is basically a multi band version of an "All American 5". Its reception covers 550 kilocycles to 31 megacycles in 4 bands, 550 to 1600 kc, 1.6 mc to 4.5 mc, 4.0 mc to 12.0 mc, and 10.5 mc to 31 mc. Its performance is similar to that of the earlier National SW-54, with slightly better tuning due to the separate bandspread. This is another of the radios I have restored and which is in my collection. Here is a link to the manual including the schematic for those interested : National NC-60 Special manual
