Virginia Beach - Research Group

Hello Everyone!

Stupid question - Last night a boat in distress call at the CBBT went out, and the usual players were assigned. One of them was Research Group. I've heard them here and there, mostly around the CBBT and Oceanfront areas. I've heard them on several water rescue assignments. Who is Research Group? All I can muster up is either Radio Tech's doing some testing, or maybe even the GIS folks updating maps. I've searched here and elsewhere and got no where. I know a couple of VBFD retirees, they had no clue either. I'm just curious for my own sanity lol ... Any ideas?

I don't know if this is the correct answer, but I know that U.S Department of Interior has research boats that frequently go to the islands making water measurements. Plus US Department of Commerce has research vessels who frequently use the waterway. Just an idea.

That actually makes sense, I was starting to wonder if NOAA had anything to do with it. I'll go with the Dept of Commerce, thank you for the answer, I appreciate it!

This vessel ID's as "Research Group"? Interesting.
