Virginia STARS DOF Encryption

I was told last week that the Dept of Forestry is now fully encrypted. I think they are the first agency to go full time. They wanted to roll it out earlier and work out any found issues, as opposed to waiting and rolling it out during fire season when they are busier.

I have just noticed today that the VSP is now fully encrypted talkgroups 751 and 753 they was coming through but now they are showing encrypted on sdrtrunk and my sds100 isn't picking this up.

I don't know 100% yet but i know it's never showed encrypted before. the only thing i'm getting is transportation TG 5280

Looks the DOF central ops is now fully encrypted as well. I heard some encryption last month. I had been recording that talkgroup. I had 9 recordings this month, all encrypted (busy signal on the TRX-1).

yeah it sucks! bad there already isn't much to listen to but this to me is just another nail in the coffin for the hobby.

YES, really sad. I have monitored VSP since the early 70's. Now I can listen to VDOT. Dammmm

You should be able to confirm this in your DSD+ set up. Look for "Enc Group call" in the activity log.

They don't need it but they're encrypting all STARS talk groups. Most dispatch centers in VA have Comlinc which means they can patch with encryption and it doesn't affect anything.

Something going on with VDOT today. Northern SSP units are using Central Tac this afternoon. I guess its there designated backup.
