I am travelling through Canada this fall. I want to bring my scanner along to listen to the railroads, because I am going from Toronto to Vancouver on the Canadian. The scanner I have programmed is a BCD396XT. Has Industry Canada made a determination about the use of digital scanners? I will a guest in your country and do not want to may a faux pas.
I am not trying to open the can of worms again, but I would like to know what you think.

I seriously enjoyed my time on the Canadian between Edmonton and Toronto in 2008 (I think it was '08!). One thing I should mention: Passenger rail in Canada is almost the bastard stepchild of the rail service. It used to be that VIA was on-time and had priority - when I took my trip, we started out 6 hours late and ultimately arrived 22 hours behind schedule. More than once we stopped in the middle of nowhere in northern Ontario for 10-30 minutes for reasons I never could figure out. (It wasn't on a siding to let a freight go by - though we did plenty of that too.)

Anyway, I spent most of my time playing around with Unitrunker and scanning emergency services in places I went past. IIRC, 160.2 is the train crew local simplex channel if you want to listen to that. If you're listening to just railroads, your AAR programming should cover pretty much everything you want to hear. Other than that, if you are wanting to hear things as you go by them, most parts of the country do have very up-to-date info in the RRDB of course.
