Their strategy is simple: They buy up semi-legacy technologies and suck everything out before it gets dumped for good.
If we had 2000, they would buy Novell. If we had 1987, they would buy Digital Research.
If your business depends on such tech and if your business/processes to replace or dump them are too slow, you are caught.

The big picture, mostly OT:

It's interesting to watch big tech turning from enablers to suffocators. Dangerous to build a complex system like our "society" upon, but do your own math about the involved risks.

The turn of a friendly card.

Then again, it shows how this system out there behaves and acts as a whole: It's a predator, a body snatcher. A vampire.

So, what is happening now is that it monopolizes information and energy (hint, the two are also the same).

Most likely enabled by the first big lie, told under the tree.
