I broke out my psr-600 after several years as a dust collector. I'm using it to cover conventional frequencies to improve scan times on my sds 200. I very quickly remembered my main complaint with the unit - turning the volume knob also turns the squelch located under (around?) the volume knob. I'm thinking if I can find something to grab the volume knob and pull it out slightly, this might fix the problem. I don't see a set screw on the volume knob, but I don't want to ruin any pots that might be connected to the shaft if I'm wrong. Does anyone have experience with this?

Both knobs can be pulled off of the shaft independent of each other. If I recall correctly, I sprayed some tuner cleaner down the shaft, after both knobs were removed, to keep the knobs from turning each other. It was occurring down in the metal shaft and not from the plastic knobs touching each other.

I'm having the same issue with my PSR-400. I already tried taking the knobs off and cleaning them but it didn't really help much if at all (they just pull off if I remember right). I think I'm going to try what @ScannerSK above said. I'm assuming CRC electronic connection cleaner would be safe to use

Yeah I have several models with the concentric pots; I just hold the squelch with while turning the volume. Not ideal, but it works for me.
