All of a sudden all I hear is chopping radio transmissions. Some are clear and then the responce is chopping. Allot of open key ups without voice. Have they totaly changed the frequ or control channels? Some sound like they are scrambled. I see in the channel list they have alternate control channels listed. Do those need to be put into scanner and if so, where?

Yep, screwed that one up. When I originaly started here it was only for local county radio system. Not all over country. sorry about that. Refering to Volusia County Florida 800 meg trunked EDAC system. It seems to be OK now. Working normal. Must have been problem at tower. Thanks and please disregard any fuirther.

Volusia county 800 EDAC. Did they change the control channel within the last week? Radio is all scratchy, choppy. Some channels have a beeping sound like it is not in the control channel. I cleared the radio and reinstalled all freq in case was radio problem, but still the same. Freq list says the control channel is LCN 14 845.3625, but the control channel is showing on LCN 6 860.4875. I live within 3 miles of the antenna by the way the crow flies.

maybe something to do with this newer system coming online?
Perhaps the EDACS is on it's way out.

The Volusia EDACS and P25 systems are still in flux. The previously transitioned EDACS site 20 (Daytona Beach) was moved to the P25 system a few weeks ago and has now been moved back to the EDACS system. As the P25 system comes online in the coming months, listeners should be aware that sites and frequencies could change.

FYI,
All frequencies must be included on an EDACS system, not just the CC. The scanner needs the correct LCN's & frequencies to trunk track, unlike P25 which can be followed with just a CC.

If you are hearing a beeping sound on the tail end, then that is certainly a voice channel LCN. EDACS has a distinct dotting sequence at the end of all non control channel transmissions. My understanding is that its supposed to help prevent normal scanners from picking up voice channels by dotting and keeping the scanner from landing on the real active voice channel and make it difficult to follow.

EDACS also rotates control channels, so you'll certainly need to know all associated frequencies for an EDACS system or site. Not sure if the Volusia County EDACS system works the same as SLERS exactly, but where I live, Site 243 constantly rotates between LCN 1 and LCN 2 as Control, and occassionally even jumps to LCN 3 as a control channel, so its fair to say that at any time any LCN can become the control channel.

FYI 856.9875 is the current control channel for the East System. It's been sounding OK on the feed I provide when ever I have listened, which is almost always for some period each day.
