To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Just getting into the VP600 radio I picked up this week. I've got a couple zones programmed in for some simplex and repeater channels I use. So far I'm really liking the Armada software (running version 1.36). One thing that's been eluding me is the Pre MDC ANI on repeater channels. For some reason I'm able to get it to work on simplex, but not on a repeater channel. The simplex and repeater channels are on two different systems but I've compared both system's settings and everything matches. The Pre MDC box is checked on the appropriate channel but it's not coming through on the other end and I'm not hearing what should be a short PTT Side Tone. I'm very new to this software so I'm sure there is some nuance that I'm missing. Anybody have any ideas what I might be missing?

Should have mentioned it works without any issues on my XTS5k, 2500s, XTL mobiles, XPRs, and Tait TP8120s. Same PL settings for everything of course unless there is something specific I'm missing.

I would look for a pretimer in the software. When we went from 4W analog voters to IP voters we needed to leangthen the pre timing to get connsistant MDC. Some radios would not work at all and others were intermittant.

Jeepsandradios, that was it exactly. I was going to post later that I got it sorted out. The Motorolas I am familiar with have their MDC initial delay set longer by default than the VP600 so it just worked with them. When I increased that delay on the VP things started working.

Thought I would post here since it is VP600 folks. Is there any setting in Armada to be able to program selective PL on an individual channel to select repeaters in the field. Seems like I could on the 51ES? Sorry to hijack the thread, but looks like it had come to a positive conclusion.

Systems->Lists->CTCSS/NAC is where you can create the OST list. Then in the channel, under Other, Allow OST, you can select TX, RX or Both.

Systems tab > Lists tab > CTCSS/NAC page. I forget which option will allow you to pick one Tx/Rx set from the list but the menu options "Channel Tx OST" and "Channel Rx OST" will allow you to pick from that list for the Tx and Rx tones respectively.

Tweiss3 and KD9RTX, thanks again so much!! I forgot how everything is a list. While I'm recruiting information, anyone know of medium cost, ($50/$60), replacement batteries for the VP400/600/900 series? Thanks again guys!! Jeff, KF0PZ.

If these are for hobby use, I've found some good deals on eBay. If they're for life safety, buy new.

I agree. I was looking for new, but aftermarket. EFJ/Kenwood is $150+ and the lowest aftermarket I can find is $130+. Crazy compared to regular Kenwood, Motorola, Etc. There is one listing on Ebay for used at $50, which seems nuts. Thanks again for the help. Jeff

I found a couple batteries on eBay for around $45/battery that turned out to be NOS. For those radios that's a pretty good price for OEM. Keep your eyes open. There are deals out there.

I saw that ad. I thought they were used. You got some and they are NOS? I'll gave to get one. For an original EFJ NOS battery, that is a good deal.

No idea if it's the same listing. Mine were not advertised as NOS. They just happened to be. Hopefully you get lucky.

Another question. Are there keystrokes to enter on the VP600 to get it to show internal model number, serial number and other information if the tag is worn off? Thanks

Create a Radio Info menu item or soft button. It will cycle through the ESN and other items. Alternatively, right-click the radio in Armada and click the properties (or similar) tab.

Thanks. I’ve done that on mine. I tried to buy a radio and didn't have access to my computer, but needed to check it to see if it was what he said it was. Almost all older radios have a keystroke or button push combined with turning on that will scroll the info. Just wondering. Thanks. Jeff
