• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My radio flags fips level 3 says I need a module and contact dealer.
Radio has AES multikey license. Did I forget to order something?

The VP8000 can do AES encryption without a separate module so long as the radio has the AES option. The fips level 3 module is still under development as I understand it.

Have you heard anything new on this? I'm curious if this will be a software/firmware upgrade or something that has to be physically installed in the radio.

I haven't heard anything new, but based on the message in Armada I expect that FIPS level 3 will require the purchase of a separate module that will need to be installed, and maybe a firmware update on the radio to make it work.

That would really suck. I'd like to have FIPS compliance, but I really don't want to have to send the radio back or have to pay for an additional option. Either way, I'll see how the radio reacts when it comes in.

The radio is FIPS 140-3 level 1 complaint. The addon module will only be necessary for those that want the level 3 compliance.

Do you know when that module will be available or pricing? I haven't heard/seen anything online about it.

Its actually more secure than APX900, APX N30 and L3Harris XL/XG series (HALM) because the processor and design is much newer. Most systems already have a few of the aforementioned models on them.

All of the modern processors from NXP and TI have advanced security and tamper features built in, just like the latest iPhone. NXP and TI are huge companies who's chips aren't just used in radios

How would it compare to an APX 8000 though? That radio is already FIPS 140-2 Level 3 compliant, so I wasn't sure how the VP8000 would compare.
