Press VFO to get into VFO mode input the frequency you don't need the 1 so lets say for 162.550, press 6 2 5 5 0. Then hold the F key for a second choose the memory channel you want then press F again.

Your going to have to go through the manual for that really. The other squelches don't matter really your not using CTCSS or DCS

Are you a ham? If not, then you are correct. There is no reason for unlicensed people to be using ham transcievers as scanners. First off, you are paying for features that you can't use and secondly, a properly set-up scanner and antenna will hear just as much any ham radio if not more.

BAH! The VX-150 is used by many non-hams to monitor VHF comms. It is band specific and not as prone to intermod.

Get over what, exactly?

Non-hams shouldn't be using radios capable of freely transmitting, whether they are using them in that capacity or not. I never considered a ham radio for scanning until licensed many years ago. On top of that, why pay for a radio that you can't use for anything but a lousy scanner? It makes no sense, considering the abilities of the newer scanners far outweigh the average hammy radio these days.

A receiver (ham radio) that picks up distant, weak signals that a scanner won't receive is something that can make trainwatching more enjoyable. Many times I've been trackside with fellow enthusiasts when my VX-150 clearly picks up signals that don't even break squelch on their scanners. I have no interest in ham radio and never want to become a ham or transmit over the radio. I just like having a receiver that gets SUPERIOR reception over a scanner.

My 97 is no match for my vx-150. It's been said before a mono band radio will outperform as a receiver over a multi-band radio. Unless its a chronic effort to thrash the ham bands, I don't see a problem with owning one. If he did cause a problem on the ham bands, he can be tracked down a lot faster than the FCC could. I say buy it and worry more about the crap the manufacturers continue to call radios. If you talk nice, encouraging words, one may decide to go for their ticket.

I agree. Although this is my first post I have be lurking around for a while now and Mr. State Boy seems to have a recurring theme of trashing people. I'd like to see the plate on that crown vic.

I guess some people [like you] can't take constructive commentary. Recurring theme, you say? That's mildly funny, considering there are many more here that are far more outspoken and much more demeaning than anything I post.

How does my remark about a non-ham owning a ham transciever equate to trashing the poster? I have an opinion, and I voiced it. I'm not trashing him or anyone else. Did I miss the statement on the login page that RRdC is a former Soviet state and free thought is not allowed? I guess if someone has a differing opinion than you, it must be wrong in your eyes?

I'd like to see the plate on that crown vic

As you wish...one CHP SMPV Crown Vic P71 coming up (the first number is a "1"): http://flickr.com/photos/23562295@N00/340901449/

Please don't instigate arguments. If you don't agree with his opinion, and can't respond in a civil manner, don't post. There is absolutely nothing wrong with stateboy's opinion.

People please stay on-topic.

Ok then. I purchaised a Vx-150, and I have a question for y'all.

I am trying to "hit" a repeater that's local, but it has a PL. but I've flipped through the manual, yet to no avail. How do I program a PL?
