• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Howdy, folks!

Got an issue with one of my radios I'm hoping someone here has some insight on. My VX-180V is not transmitting when I key up. It'll receive all day, but when I attempt to transmit this is what I'm seeing: the red light on top comes on for a second; then, the radio name appears on the display (just like it was just turned on). Finally, the unit beeps and the display reverts to showing the name of the channel I was originally on.

I've had this radio for a good long while and it's been a good one for me. This just started the other day. I'm curious to find out what the problem is and whether or not it's repairable or if I should just toss it and get another handheld.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

sounds like a battery issue to me. I have several vertex radios that will transmit for a split second and power cycle when the battery is low. try a new battery, as yours in there now may have reached it's end of life.

Yeah, that may be it. I admit I hadn't considered a battery issue. I'll round one up and give it a shot. Thanks!

NiCD or NiMH batteries do not have a long life time, recommend changing over to the Lithium Batteries.

In receive, the radio only draws 0.075A, but in transmit, 2 - 2.2A and if you have a battery with a faulty cell, the radio will reset.

You can use the same batteries as of those made for the VX-410/420

Do Not use the battery packs made for AA Batteries
