Hi Vertex experts, I trolled the forum but cant find much on this model.
I have recently purchased a Vertex VX-2500 from ebay, clearly new in box but previous owner had it stored for a while. It has been programmed for 80 narrowband channels on 477mhz (australia UHF cb range).
The manual that came with it says I should use a 0 dbd antenna only. I purchased a 0 dbd (2.15dbi) antenna which frankly appears to be a short piece of wire cut to maybe a 1/4 wave size ( it is a reputable brand GME) and anyway I can't get more than about 3-4km range. So i have a couple of questions.
Does anyone know why they state a 0 dbd antenna must be used? and what would happen if I attached a higher gain antenna (I have a a 6db and a 9db for my uniden), seeing there are no hills here. Will it effect the unit in a bad way?
Also,
A second issue.
Everytime I change channel it defaults to 25w, and I have to turn it back to low power. can this be programmed the other way around so it defaults to 5watt?
Advice is much appreciated.
