VX-2500 Questions

Recently, I acquired a VX-2500 UHF radio. I'd like to program it for GMRS, but am having difficulties finding good information on programming, and even legit sources of software and cables.

Does anyone have good sources for locating legit programming software and cables?

Are they difficult to program, by the way? Used some Motorola software (Pro Series) and am fairly decent with that, as well as the RT Systems programming software.

CE-82 software. It's probably easier to download unless you happen to have a nice dealer in the area. The software use to be free off the Vertex site, but I've not dealt with them since the Motorola merger. The serial cable is on ebay for approx $15. Ease of software is in my opinion MUCH easier than say the Astro25 and comparable with the Pro series complexity.

I recently bought a USB programming cable for the radio, and the software was included (CE-52, I believe). So far, I can't read the radio from my computer. Idea was to read the radio, and keep that as a baseline codeplug.

I've reinstalled the USB Drivers on several occasions, and changed to different COM ports, but so far, no luck.

Any ideas?

Correct ALWAYS Read the radio FIRST and save that to a archive file before making any changes.
