Ok, so I have a VX-4204 that I previously programmed using the traditional cable layout. Today I received a USB cable from a reputable seller that I have bought other cables from before and have had no issues with, in fact his cables have been the only ones that worked when all others didn't.
Today though, I seem to be reaching a wall. If the radio is on and I plug the cable into the computer and then into the radio, it goes into a power cycle loop, with the display flashing on and off and the self-test beep being heard for a fraction of a second before repeating until I unplug the cable.
If I turn the radio off and then plug in the cable and go to power it on, the radio does not power on at all. This is odd because when I programmed the radio the other time, I do remember having to power cycle it to switch between programming and normal mode, however the radio did at least power on.
Also of note, on the pinout of the cable I have, pins #8, #7 and #5 are in use. I talked to a friend who lent me his normal programming cable so I could do the initial programming of the radio, and he says that his programming cable, again non-USB, also has the #6 pin occupied, which according to the pinout is +5V. (#8 and #7 are upload and download, and #5 is mic ground)
Thoughts?
