Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

VX-7200 Boot Looping With Programming Cable Attached

Evening all,

Long time listener, first time caller - I have a Vertex VX-7200 with CT-104 USB cable that when attached to computer for programming, causes the radio to endlessly boot loop. Unplugging the cable stops the looping and allows the radio to turn on. I, otherwise, have no trouble with radio. I am not certain where to begin with troubleshooting such an issue.

Advise?

Thanks

Not a solution, but I'm trying to figure out.
These were some of the last that were Vertex and not Motorola like with programming.
Radio is off when the programming cable is plugged into the radio?
You are plugging into the computer USB with the radio still off? Then it causes the power up boot cycle?
CE76 configured for USB and mobile?

Been a long time since I worked on one of these but I recall this issue. I believe you have to turn the radio on with the mic plugged in. Once it’s booted up unplug mic and plug in the programming cable. Then read or write the radio.

If the radio is off when the cable is plugged in, then the radio will not turn on at all. If the radio is on, it will go into it's loop. CE76 is configured, yes, but it doesn't even get far enough to make a communication attempt.

I tried this, as noted, to no avail.

Where did you get the PROGRAMMING CABLE?
Is it a FACTORY CABLE or EBAY HOMEMADE CABLE?
I got the PROGRAMMING CABLE from eBay. But I don't know if it would be classified as a EBAY HOMEMADE CABLE since it came from a reputable dealer. I have actually reached out to the dealer to inquire as to what could be going on as well.

Some of the aftermarket cables exhibited this symptom . The oem cable does not have this problem.

With those symptoms I would agree regarding the cable. Most likely the adapter chip in it. Someone please chime in, I think it's called prolific vs non? I wish I could help, but I still use the serial DB9 *(and a serial to USB adapter when I have to). I don't know about the mic then programming cable reply, but it seems quite possible? To get the software to recognize the extra buttons on the MH-64 mic you had to do this.
I'm guessing it's the USB dongle, but with the RJ-45 tail plugged in and the usb disconnected will it turn on and off? Just want to make sure nothing is wonky in the pigtail/adapter. If not verify with the RJ-45 tab down gold pins up and at the top verify you have wires going to pin 1 the left most (data) and pin 4 the 4th from the left (ground).
