To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, I have a new old stock VX-824 and VMDE-200 board I tried out today. Using CE59 V3.08 and FW on radio 1.94 It is unable to detect the option board. I tried the adjustment recover and reset but still no luck. Software says it needs to be at least past FW 1.53 which it is. Anyone have insight?

Take the board out, power radio back on read then save. After which install the board again and attempt the same steps. if that fails there’s a chance the contact between the main board in the radio and the VMDE isn’t sufficient, or if all else fails attempt to put the radio in SUB CLONE mode and attempt to read the board in CE-73. If no response from the board then there’s the cause of the issue. Considering your FW you can manuall enable MDC encoding in your ANI Tab then changing your parameters in the MDC1200 tab.

The older CE59 might be the problem. 5.04exp allows selection of narrow or wide and it can be found for free online.
Under Common -> Option the Option Unit says None?

If it does say VMDE-200 to make it work you'll need to change Signalling Type to Option and No to 2 for MDC1200. This is on the main page where you're entering freqs, tones etc. I don't remember the others as we never used them, but I think 1 is DTMF and 3 is GE Star???

Go here and get CE-73 V3! Software : Cimarron Technologies for ANI Encoders and Decoders
Unfortunately the manual has a dead link, but here's the info for how to enter sub-clone.

I’m able to read it with the CE-73 and adjust MDC settings and then write, CE-59 V5.03 still does not allow the selection though. No option board pops up. Do I need a special cable to upgrade the radio FW?
