• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

hey all i recently upgraded my gr-1225 uhf repeater with a vertex vx-9000u 100 watt repeater ever since i hooked it up there is a kind of whining noise in the backround so i bumped the power down to 50 watts thinking that would help (i know 100 watts is to much for the repeater it really hurts the repeater recive sensitivity it seems) anyways its powered with 50 watt astron power supply i never had the whining sound with my 1225 maybe i should have stayed with that. also it is paired with a Sinclair Q3220E-3 duplexer . thands in advance

I wonder if the PL deviation is set too high? That can cause a whine in the audio. That is, if you are using PL of course.

Power supplies are rated in Amps(Not Watts) and whether they have a continuous or intermittent Amp rating
and you could have a power supply that is not able to handle the current rating needed.

sorry my mistake i meant fifty amps.yesterday i went out to the site and tried a few things i tried numerous different pl tones than i even set it to CSQ and it still made the noise i took a large tractor battery (12 volt) and hooked it up to that thinking it was i power supply issue...still it made the squeeking sound so i unhooked the duplexer thinking maybe it was a duplexer noise and just spun a dummy load on than keyed it up with my hand held and the same noise. its a brand new repeater so i dont know where i am going wrong

With the information you have supplied i would be guessing. i simply have no idea
what you mean by "squeeking sound".

Perhaps you could record that sound and attach it to this thread?

Just a guess here, but is it possible that the issue is the repeater itself? It seems you've narrowed down everything else. New equipment can sometimes be bad out of the box.

The only other thing that comes to mind is the duplexer may not be tuned properly or perhaps with
the additional power output of the VXR 9000 that the GR-1225 did not have there may not be enough
isolation between receiver and transmit frequencies and you are experiencing the transmit getting into
the receiver.

ya i thought about that too but i have the power turned down to 50 watts i have tried a few duplexers i even tried it without a duplexer all had the same results it is still able to transmt woice there is just a back round noise very similar to the squeeling noise like when you key in a hand held and the mic in too close to the speaker of another radio on the same channel

take your duplexer out of the equation. on the bench in base (not-repeat) mode (may have to get out your VPL and program up a mode for standalone base only), does it still do it? if so, then you have a problem with the repeater itself. Good thing, Vertex has a 3 year warranty if it is bad. (all of this ASSumes you bought it new from an authorized V-S dealer).

VX-9000 noise

I would firstly check the tightness of the cabling with the duplexer. Those inter-connect cables need to be very tight... also, make sure you have good grounding to known grounds at the site.... any guess at the frequency of the whine? 60 Hz? good luck

Based on some recent experience, you might want to turn down an adjustment called "repeat sensitivity" on tab 2 of the alignment screen in programming. Don't turn down too much or you will lose voice loudness in your audio output on transmit...
