I have a high split 450-512Mhz. 720 and have been trying to see if there is a way to get it down into the Ham Band. Has anyone been able to do that?

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.
To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

VXD720 Out of Band

Yes I have been able too, its the same way to take the XPR6550 out of band.
This is the instructions for the XPR series that use Mototrbo cps. Look for the vertex .exe
1. Download and install a hex editor (HXD, Hex workshop etc):
2. Launch Mototrbo CPS, Read the radio and save the file. note the band limits (in my example
450.000 - 512.000 MHz) and Leave the CPS window open.
3. Launch your hexeditor, Click “open RAM” and click on
“mototrbocps.exe”
4. Next, press control+R (or edit > replace)
5. enter your current band limit (e.g. 450.0000) on the first field
6. Enter your new, desired band limit (e.g. 420.0000) below.
7. Keep “datatype” at text-string, check the “unicode string” and “all” boxes, and click “Replace All”
8. Click on “Save” (in the Hex software utility)
9. Return to your open CPS program, change a few fields and make sure the changes took affect at
the “device information” page (note the new split - 420 - 512 MHz !)
10. IMPORTANT! the next step is to edit your channels / frequencies AND SAVE THE FILE under a
new, different name. This saved file will now ALWAYS have the modified band split and should be
used from now on instead of reading the codeplug from the radio ! If you upgrade firmware, use the same modification again and save as a new file.
11. PROGRAM THE RADIO, TEST AND ALIGN is not required and the radio will perform to 420MHz at full spec
Any attempt to read the radio will result in the deletion of all “out of band” frequencies in the radio. it will not be bricked, just the information would be lost. use the saved file to restore the radio if this happens.
12. SAVE the codeplug and edit from the file for future programming changes.

I know this is an old thread but, has anyone else done this on their VXD-720?
Just to follow up in case anyone else is wondering, I performed this mod on my newly acquired VXD-720 and it worked perfectly. Thank you KC2OBW for supplying the info.
