Hello,

Want to get back to monitoring some HF Acars.

Installed Wacars 0.7, but keep getting an error msg when I try to run it that this version is not compatibility with my OS, etc.

I believe it's a fairly old program, and that 0.7 is the latest version of it. True ?

I am running the 64 bit version of Windows 7, and have run it previously, without any problems

Now have a new HD installed, so that is why I have to re-install it.

It is undoubtedly a 32 bit program, and I always assumed W7 is smart enough to know to run these older programs in 32 bit mode. Tried some of the "Compatibility Modes", such as XP and Vista, but still the same error msgs..

Anyone using with a 64 bit W7 OS ?

Any thoughts on what next to try ?

Thanks,
Bob

There's an awful lot of software that doesn't play well with Win7 64 bit...

Let's start with the app. I could be wrong, but I don't believe WACARS is set up for HFDL...it's a very old program that, I think, is only set up for VHF ACARS (the protocols are not the same).

Again, take a look at the soundcard software selections in the website in my sig. There are 4 there that are known to work with HFDL, including the original - PC-HFDL, which I believe is available in that Yahoo group. That's a free package, though with some limited functionality.

There's also Sigmira, MultiPSK and the hacked software Sorcerer also covers HFDL. All free (you only need to pay with MultiPSK to unlock certain ham-related modes)

No idea about windoze 7 64bit but as Mike suggests, WACARS is for ACARS not for HF Datalink decoding.

As I mentioned in an earlier thread, your biggest issue isn't necessarily going to be the software, but how you get the audio from WinRadio into the decoder. Likely as not you're going to need some sort of virtual driver

That's going to take some digging, I would expect...Mike

Is BOBRR using WinRadio? He doesn't say what radio he's using, but like all above, I think that WACARS won't decode HFDL and the problem lies with W7 not liking the software.

I use WinRadio G303e with the virtual sound card and PCHFDL and it works well, even with GoogleEarth running all at the same time on a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop with XPv3. As it works well, as does all my other software on the desktop too, I have NO intention of going to Win7, 8 or any other. Call me a dinosaur, but at least my system works!
