I am riding along with Baptist Air Care Ground Critical Care Transport for my senior project, and they were telling me today that the helicopters are on the 800 system, but ground was still on VHF, and dispatched out of Nebraska from AIRCOM. So I should be able to pick it up on my scanners at home, like one of the other paramedics do, but I have some problems. 1) I need someone to verify that 453.025 is the right frequency, for NC Baptist Ground. 2) Do I need to change my PL tone? If so, what is a PL tone and how do I change it? 3) I have a Radio Shack PRO-163 Scanner, will this type of scanner work, if so do I need to change any of the settings on it?

Thank You So Much

Baptist ground is on 462.0125 Nfm, with an 82.5 hz PL. I don't know if you would ever get it in Asheboro, the signal is pretty weak. I live near the Guilford/Randolph line and I will get it every now & then. In fact, I got it a little today before the rain. Plug it in & see. If your radio won't do PL, it should still pick up ok.

NFM means narrow band FM, it should still pick it up in regular FM mode, it just won't be as loud. Just program the freq and don't worry about the PL tone to see if you can receive it from your location. I'm not familiar with programming a pro-163.
