Yes

The one's looking dressed up are managers.

That's what I figured.

It's kinda funny because they do this exact same behavior at my local Walmart.

Now mine has a McDonalds instead of a Subway yet another local does have a Subway.

Anyway, it's funny, because I once seen one crouch down below a shelf in the middle of an isle and just stare at people buying shoes.

I looked at him, like WTF ARE YOU DOING? and he looked at me like I was weird. LoL.

Anyway, I ended up getting myself a nice pair of headphones that look very similar to their earpieces yet green (I only wear one so I can still talk to my friends or do other things), and just put it on both channels, and they are actually not as boring as you would assume.

I love how the managers have their own channel as if it's more private, when some managers apparently blast their radios because you can hear it loud as heck through some areas of the store.

Today, it was kinda funny, I heard messages like,

"Customers are complaining about rotten fruit"

Oops...you're right. it was #96 at my store too now that I think about it. It's funny how many of the same features are carried from store to store.
N9zas.
Not only that, but from country to country; WalMart US to WalMart Canada :)

None of the stores here, or at least none of the ones around me, use radios of any sort.

Former Walmart Store Manager

Okay so I have worked in 6 different Walmart stores I have been in a Supercenter and Division 1 stores (No food). The stores can and do just buy Moto of the shelf from Sam's Club radios. There wasn't anything fancy about them and there wasn't any repeaters in the store for the radios. However after a lot of changes to the registers and functions that they can do in the larger supercenters co-manager's and store managers were all issued PDA's that worked on the companys intranet. These PDA's originoally would just be used to assist in the operation of the registers. Like if a cashier needed a drawer opened because she forgot to get change out for a customer and shut it too soon. The manager could open it while standing in the garden center. The PDA also would alow the managers to access their company email system and recieve messages. During the later parts of the integration they were able to recieve and dial out on the phone system. So yes a manager could access the phone system from really anywhere in the store and be wireless. Since I have left I know I have seen a huge decrease in the PA traffic and I have noticed that many of the hourly department managers now have ear pieces and radios. I assume that is the reason for the decrease in traffic over the PA. It was always a goal while I was there to try and cut down and cut out all the stupid pages over the PA. It has been nice that they seem to have figured it all out.

Manager channel

Speaking of their radio channels I can honestly say one thing.

I hope they don't think of their "Manager" channel as private, because I noticed radios are blasted and I heard a radio so loud, I was able to hear it, even though it sounded anywhere from 50ft-100ft away.

Doesn't sound very "private" to me, LoL.

Most likely they are using a cordless phone plugged into an extension. I work for a large supermarket chain in the midwest and we have several cordless phones connected to our system. All we have to do is dial a two digit extension to page throughout the store, the best feature is the fact that you can answer any line, place it on hold and forward to any extension anywhere you happen to be in the store.

At least at the WalMart where I used to work, and probably the same for all of them, the managers carried cordless phones which they could do pages on. As I recall their extensions were in the 300's.

you are correct. when i worked at walmart i got a cordless phone and we would dial the 3 numbers and we were on. it is the same 3 that any story phone would use with the quick key. It was just a cordless phone that was part of the store internal phone system. There were some times I was in the parking lot and would page.

And no I was not a manager. plus this is for the canada stores

Yeah they're definitely not private, the store nearest me doesn't even use a PL or DPL tone.

I don't hear too much on the local Wal Mart channels, which are 154.570 and 154.600, but Target is another matter. Their UHF channels are usually pretty busy.

I sometimes hear what sounds like automated messages, like, "Clean up on isle three, who is responding?" They will repeat until someone responds, and they sound pre recorded. There are, however, live conversations as well.

You also hear the same type of message like, "Customer service needed in electronics, who is responding?" But it too sounds like a canned message, recorded by the same person.

Visit a Target store, monitor 461.0375, DPL 026, or 467.750, DPL 115, and maybe you'll see what I'm talking about!

Target has buttons where there is locked merchandise (like jewelry, cellphones, GPSs) and you press them and then a store employee get's there quick. I'm guessing that it works with one of those pre recorded messages.

I thought though on murs they are suppose to use pl/dpl?? most i noticed only use csq. i know near here a wal mart runs csq. a construction company was operting the same freq and wal mart made a big stink. I think the company wasnt knowledgeable in 2way either but they did use a pl/dpl. I would think wal mart was in the wrong right?

The local Wal Mart by me uses 151.625 for general operations.

Also, I am willing to bet the PA is accessed by phone and not radio.

I know the building I work in, the PA is tied to the phone system. You have to dial 3500-1 for all-call, -2 for the shop floor and -4 for front office/engineering. There are also codes for fire, tornado, and all clear.

Using 151.625 is smart, because at least in theory it requires licensing. However it's possible that Wal-Mart has a nationwide license for that channel. As far as MURS goes, you get no protection at all from other users on the same channel.
