I am looking to buy the UNIDEN BCD436HP Scanner, all the videos that I have seen are talking about AC & DC USB. What I would like to know is can you also plug this scanner into a wall outlet or do you just use the batteries that come with this scanner ? I am looking for the best home patrol/digital scanner on the market today.

You can use any decent micro-USB phone charger to power the 436HP from a wall outlet, but you can't run the scanner and charge the batteries at the same time.

Because the 436HP has several features the HP-2 does not. The 436HP is much better suited to portable/handheld use, for example. Different people will have different preferences based on intended usage, etc.

Recieved my bcd436hd

Hi everyone I received my BCD436HD today, from what I read in the post I can use my indoor plug to power this scanner as long as I do not have the batteries in it. What I want to know can I use the USB cable that came with this scanner or do I have to get another type of cable for use in the indoor wall outlet ?

Not true. It's a bad idea to run the scanner without batteries. You just can't charge the batteries and run the scanner at the same time.

You can use the included cable to power the scanner from any decent USB power adapter.

Sorry for all the questions

I am new to this digital stuff so the way I am reading the post I can leave the batteries in while I plug it into an indoor wall outlet so I can listen to it ?

That is correct. When prompted for Mass Storage or Serial, select Serial.

Yes, or you can plug it into the usb on your computer or cigarette lighter plug anything that will adapt to a usb. Just like if you were powering a cell phone.

You can use your own rechargeable batteries, and charge them externally in your own charger. That's what I do. I use low self-discharge batteries such as Sanyo (now Panasonic) Eneloops, Imedion (made by Maha, which also makes one of the chargers I use), and some Amazon Basics. I don't charge in the scanner, since if a battery overheats and ruptures, that would damage the radio.

You do, however, need to leave batteries in the scanner, even though you are not charging them there. Without batteries, the recording and replay features are disabled.

The "Avoid" key is the same as the Lockout key on older models. The default "Avoid" (lockout) is "temporary", which means the channel will remain 'avoided' until the next time the scanner is turned off, then re-started (powered back up). That's what you get when you press Avoid just once. If you press it twice, quickly, that makes it a permanent avoid. The channel (conventional channel or talkgroup ID) will remain "Avoided" (locked out) until you 'un-Avoid' it, or update your Favorites lists from Sentinel. (That's presuming you don't go into Sentinel and also Avoid it there. If you did, then your update would leave the channel however it was set in Sentinel.)
