Does anyone have any links to official WARICS info?

I Googled 'Western Arizona Regional Interoperability Communications System' and the only hits I find are the RR posts, or references to RR on other sites.

The reason I ask is that the latest 2010 STATEWIDE COMMUNICATIONS INTEROPERABILITY PLAN (SCIP) presentation attached pretty clearly identifies it as YRCS, and does not mention WARICS as a future option
(See Appendix H)

John,

I just did a search too and wow, can't seem to find any references to WARICS except via RR too ...

There was a system News Update Posted on 2006-02-15 08:54:43. It does seem to be "official" ...

"The Yuma Regional Communications TRS, is currently undergoing a significant transformation at the request of the Arizona State Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, to cover a larger part of the state. That being said, federal, state, county and local agencies will use this system for interstate interoperability purposes to connect with the San Diego RCS. This move will ensure cross-border interoperability voice communications between the U.S. and Mexico from San Diego eastward through Arizona.

The Western Arizona Regional Interoperability Communications System, (WARICS) will include La Paz and Mohave counties across the western part of the state, which both plan to join this system in the future. Moreover, talks are currently underway between the Las Vegas Metro Police Dept, and Mohave County to have common, mutual aid talkgroups linked between their new 700 MHz TRS, that is currently under construction and this system. This move would greatly enhance interoperability communications between the Las Vegas Metro area, Clark County and the state of Arizona

WARICS will be linked via digital microwave to four other regions across the Grand Canyon State, including the Phoenix Metro area. Further plans call for the addition of mobile data technology that will place MDCs in all first responder vehicles within the next several years or sooner, if funding can be secured in a more timely manner. Accordingly, additional frequencies will be required to build-out the system in the 700 and 800 MHz bands, to support this wide-area interoperability project."

Looking at that news update, and seeing what is currently happening in Maricopa and Pima Counties, suggest at least part is true. Perhaps, the name change didn't stick ? We'll have to do some more research on this....

Thanks for that link too,

Here are some references back to the test between YRCS and RWC. In all of them they are highlighting the Motorola ISSI gateway to link all of the individual Project 25 TRS's. Of note is the fact that they will be deploying them in the 700mhz range, which so far, we now have a new "YRCS" site in the Phoenix and Tucson areas. I have asked one of our knowledgeable members of RR for new systems if he has any reference material on WARICS. If not, then I tend to believe that we will have to forgoe this WARICS designation, especially in light of the 2010 AZ guide. Like you, I only find reference to this ID within RR and nowhere else.

And another thing to make you go hmmmm, the use of the 700mhz spectrum has not been worked out between the US and Mexico for use. The Tucson area, I believe, is within that border buffer area that has yet to be agreed upon useage ...

I received the following information from a fellow RR member:

"That name came from an old newspaper article that talked about the new radio system. They mentioned that the Yuma County System, was expanding its coverage throughout the far western Arizona counties, to become the Western Arizona Regional Interoperability Communications System, (WARICS). They even interviewed several public safety officials, who were very optimistic about the future of the radio system. However, one thing has changed since that article was published, was they were expecting Las Vegas and all of Clark County to go Project 25. However, as fate would have it, Las Vegas Metro PD went OpenSky.

... the long-term plan for these regional and wide-area Project 25 systems in Arizona, is for them to become unified under the state of Arizona. This might be a few years away from becoming a reality, but the game plan is for the State to take over all the maintenance and system costs once the warranty contracts are up on current systems in place. Then they will work with Motorola, to make it one complete seamless statewide network....

I should point out that one of the original partners in the WARICS TRS, was the state of Arizona and U.S. Dept. of Justice. However, the latter backed out, when they decided to implement their nationwide VHF-High band Project 25 TRS. Likewise, the state of Arizona also backed out as a partner, mostly because of economic reasons, but the state Office of Homeland Security decided to give grant money instead..."

Kudos and thanks to John questioning the ID on this system.

I will be renaming it to the YRCS TRS, with notes about the Wide-Area Project 25 testing and future...

yrcs and dps

a source at a local radio shop here in yuma reports they are getting site work done to move dps to the yrcs system. He stated there is no money for the state backbone so dps will go to local systems now. will likely operate on 800 and 400 but dont know about simulcasting
