anyone know what i can to help this. my scanner is very scetchy. i have to move it around on the coffee table to find the sweet spot for it to come in clear enough to know whats going on.
i am a volunteer ff here and this is really starting to bother me. i quite turning it on as much cause i cant hear it godd. also i did update my firmwear last week to see if it would help but did not help at all.

Since it seems that you have a 106, do you have the 800MHz antenna that Radio Shack sells? It will make a difference in how well the radio will hear the system. Do you have all the CC frequencies in the scanner?
Just wondering,
Larry

im sorry I thought I put my scanner. yes it is a pro-106. I have tried the 800mhz from radio shack. I couldn't tell any difference between that one and the factory one. I have also used a cb antenna put on the roof of the house with no difference. what do you mean by all the cc freq.

CB antenna's will not work to hear trunked systems. Control Channels are what the trunk system operate off of. They are the Red and Blue frequencies in the RR database. I don't remember if there are CC's for Heard county. Have you pressed the MAN button while on the system and on one of the channels there was a loud buzzing digital noise and numbers on the bottom of the screen? That would be the active CC. If you are seeing it decode at anything higher than 50%, you should hear the TGID's you programmed into the scanner.

I used the butell radio ref programming software to program when I first set it up. just a few minutes ago after I read your last post you sent I opened the software and started looking around and compareing to the database. well it only had like 3 or 4 of the CCs. so I added both blue both red and all the grey color cc. then loaded to my scanner. havnt had much traffic on it sence I done that but so far it seams as if its catching it too late and Im issing the first bit then it catches on and holds. have you looked at the database for my county? this stuff is confusing to me.

alright I have redone it so only the red and blue CCs are on it. its still coming in bad.i miss the first part of the traffic and then once it catches it, it may or may not be choppy. I have even tried both my anntenas and also both inside and outside in multiple places around the house and yard. I have found a place with the scanner sitting on the couch it will come in fine. could there be some other settings that could be tweeked for it to recive it better? any of the expert settings.

I'm just tossing ideas out here.

Is there anything that you did recently that would cause there to be interference? New wifi router? New microwave? New computer? New cell phone tower? New wife/girlfriend?

Think of things that changed since it last worked.

I don't know the right terminology for this, but is it possible they turned down the repeater to where it is not as strong as it use to be?

Hope this helps.

On another note:
As I was driving through Villa Rica today I just laughed when I saw "Newnan PD" pop up on the scanner. Overkill on the coverage?

I'm going to make a couple of observations. First, since the system is simulcast, only use the CC's for the tower site closest to you. Second, change the multisite mode to OFF. Over the years with my 106 and 197, I found this to be the best setting.

I have mine in roam but had to play with the threshold numbers to make it work correctly. I have a Pro-106 and roam between the Newnan and Carrollton towers.
