The Benson Site is indeed transmitted from….Benson. I can hear the controller on VHF and UHF from my location which is just outside of Benson towards the direction of the site itself, which is also a radar site.

123.85 is Co-field which is in Hertford NC not far from Greenville.
I've never seen Cofield listed as an RCAG site, and can't find anything in the vicinity that looks like an RCAG site on Google Earth. Do you have the coordinates for it by any chance ? The closest I see is Whaleyville 21nm to the NE of Cofield at 36 38 01 N 076 39 24 W.

Cofield is or was the name of a low-altitude Sector. My understanding was that it had been merged--possibly with New Bern. However, I was down in eastern NC on vacation last week and could swear I heard a hand-off to this freq (123.85). I'm still not quite sure about the changes down there since so much airspace has gone over the Cherry Point Approach. The Cofield UHF freq years ago was 323.0, but I haven't heard it in a while.
When the Air Guard still had F-16's at Richmond, they'd go to Franklin sector on 269.4, then Cofield sector on 323.0 and then cancel IFR and contact the Navy Dare Weapons Range. Immediately south of the Cofield sector was the New Bern sector.

Yes the Cofield Sector (24) no longer exists, it and the Rocky Mount Sector (28) were combined into the New Bern Sector (25) a few years ago when Cherry Point took over the remainder of the airspace. This "new" New Bern Sector uses 123.850 and UHF 279.650. The RRDB needs to be updated.

Yep, I wish we could get some straightforward data. There's so much confusion about sector names versus transmitter site names, etc. that it's hard to get anything really straight. I'm still trying to process those four layers of ZDC above Greenville, NC!

To confuse things even more there are various Letters of Agreement (LOA) that in some cases will delegate a sectors airspace to another facility and it won't be depicted on the usual sector charts. The New Bern Sector alone has 25 LOA's covering it's airspace, some of which delegate control to Cherry Point Approach, Norfolk Approach, Oceana Approach, and Giant Killer.

List of New Bern Sector LOA's (source ZDC SOP November 2023)

1. Cherry Point (NKT)
2. Seymour Johnson (GSB) with ECHO
3. Wilmington (ILM) 11/30/23 ZDC 7230.110T CHG 5 2-3-2-3
4. Hatteras B East and West FL180-FL230
5. GIANT KILLER (VACAPES)
6. Cherry Point MCAS (NKT) NEUSE A, B, & C ATCAA
7. IR062, 714, 715, 718, 719, 720, 760, 761, 762
8. Oceana (NTU): Approach Control and Contingency Plan
9. ISO (Kinston)
10. Razor Talon LFE
11. ORF (Norfolk)
12. RDU (Raleigh)
13. NTU COMSTRKFIGHTWINGLANT Stereo FP
14. 4th OG, 916th OG, GSB Stereo FP
15. GSB Contingency Plan
16. FACSFAC VACAPES Stereo FP
17. GSB MARSA
18. GSB, 4th OG, 916th OG Stereo FP
19. IR012
20. IR035
21. MAG 14 (Only) NKT Stereo FP
22. MAG 14, MAG 31 NKT Stereo FP
23. MAG 26, MAG 29 NCA (New River) Stereo FP
24. Hatteras F
25. Pamlico D

Unfortunately the SOP only provides the list, the details of each LOA would be in another document. Another FOIA request for another day whenever I get around to it.
