I am new to the area and am trying to figure out the WSP radio system. They seem to be using the conventional frequencies. RR also has a separate trunked system that is a mixture of P25 phase 1 and 2. I sometimes pick up a few transmissions on them. They also are listed under the Justice integrated wireless network. Does any one know if the are planning on switching the entire radio system to the P25 Phase 2? I am wondering if I should upgrade my scanner. I the mornings on my way to work it seems real quite on the conventional frequencies. I am trying to listen mostly in the district 2 and 7 areas. Thanks

Listen to the P25 VHF conventional frequencies and you'll be fine for the metro areas you are in. You might not hear everything on the JWIN or P2 system as it depends on if any units are affiliated on that system and happen to be on the talkgroup you are listening to. The VHF frequencies will have all the comms you'll want to listen to.

It's pretty much moved to the 700 system. You'll find more activity on VHF outside of King County. The 325P2 or 996P2 scanners work well or the TRX-1/TRX-2. And then there's the newer Uniden scanners if you don't mind taking out a car loan. :p

When I am in the area I monitor via all channels and bands. P25 Phase II and conventional. The JWIN system is great but so are the channels still on VHF. I'll also note for the VHF channels while many have switched to P25, I know I still have a few programmed with CT codes (analog). It really depends on exactly where you are and what you want to hear. I'll agree however that eventually I'd expect everything to be P25.

I will add that when in King County, I prefer to scan the WSP 700 Phase II system or the VHF JIWN due to the fact that there are car to car talkgroups that will exclusively be heard on trunking.

Sounds like it would be best to listen to Conventional and the 700 Phase II. I have the home patrol I in my vehicle, so for now I would have to stick with the conventional until. All I am really concerned with listening to is dispatch on I5, I405 in king and Snohomish County. Once again thanks for everyones input.
