I'm trying to figure out why I can hear the Bremerton/Shelton dispatch and cars pretty much anywhere I travel in the Puget Sound area, but when I'm tuned to Pierce County or Seattle I can hear the dispatch fine, but can only hear the cars when I'm within a few miles of them. Any ideas?

The same thing happens in Kitsap County with the fire department. I can hear dispatch, but not the units unless I am close.

Thanks for the input!

that's very very odd. i have no idea why that is. sometimes i find i get better reception from places that are really far away, like kitsap sheriff, and not seattle WSP (when driving around in seattle)

probably belongs in the WA forum

But the easy answer is Bremerton uses a repeater, Tacoma 155.52 and 154.74 as of yet, still use the remote sites that are linked back to dispatch. Their cars may hear both sides of the traffic but most of us with lesser equipment and low level antennas cannot. When you hear a dispatcher repeat parts of the mobiles traffic, it is to let other units who may not hear the mobile know what is going on. You should be able to hear both King Co repeaters ok, 155.58 & 154.680 100hz
