All of a sudden Washtenaw Co went silent on my BCD996XT. It was in bank 2, I get a signal from the control channel of 5 of 5 bars, yet no voice comms for a week now. I changed to ID search from ID scan to increase traffic possibilities... and nothing.

For range reference... I am 2 miles west of Cabelas off M-50 in Dundee Twp and have a 3bd Browning 800 MHZ at 25 foot up using RG-213 50 ft trying to hit the Washtenaw Tower on US-23 at Bemis which I know I can because I could get it weak with the telescopic back of set antenna.

I did change antennas recently from an old Ringo Ranger II for 2 meters to a new Browning 800 Mhz ant with 3 db gain. But everything else is coming in and even better now that I have a proper antenna for 800. The Ringo was an experiment because it was free. So I know the antenna change is not the problem. Was there a re-banding or something on the Washtenaw site for MPSCS recently?

Also as a seperate action not related to above... will it do me any good to plug in the old Washtenaw Co Govt Smartnet II Analog system? Is there anything going on that system that I cannot hear on the MPSCS site? If I do ...are there any special instructions on an analog system. I got P25 down pat but no experience with analog MOTO.

For the Washtenaw MPSCS is it true I only have to program the control channel? What happens in I program ALL freqs? If true what about alternates?

Thanks.

Disregard this post

Through troubleshooting I determined I have an antenna/ connector/ coax issue. I took the scanner to the area of the Bemis Rd tower site and was able to copy traffic using the back of set antenna. Either I got a bum base antenna (Tram Browning 800 Mhz) or a bum SO-239 to N Male Adapter.

Now I have to wait for the snow to clear my roof...again.

More troubleshooting.

Coax is eliminated.
SO239 to N Male Connector eliminated.

That leaves the Tram Browning BR-6283 as the lone culprit. Obviousely defective as I put up a 2 meter Ringo Ranger and it is outperforming this so called 800 Mhz antenna at 800 MHZ.

I only skimmed this thread, but wanted to make certain you did not have the attenuation turned on. You should not have to be near the tower.

When you hook up to an outside antenna, especially if it is a gain antenna, the attenuator might be useful.

That is true for all of MPSCS. You only need to program the control channels of the towers, adding in the alternates is a good idea.
