Since the link provides a live news feed, the subject of this thread is long gone by the time most of us brought the link up. Right now a helicopter is hovering over a commercial or apartment house building roof, where a 211 suspect is holding up while the LAPD has the building surrounded.

I am pretty sure the water drops on the propane tank were here in San Diego county. I heard about the video feeds on the local stations but was busy and didn't switch it on. When the tank had exhausted the propane, it finally went out.

Some more info for this thread....

300-Pound Propane Tank Explodes at Soda Distributor.
(Monster Energy, Vitamin Water, Snapple, Sobe, Muscle Milk, and some beers.)

Fire officials said the propane tank was refueling a forklift when fumes were ignited by an unknown ignition source about 4:15 p.m. Vented propane that was in the air also caught fire, causing a big plume of black, thick smoke to fill the air.

The tank had been used frequently to provide fuel for vehicles and forklifts that belonged to John Lenore & Co., a beverage distributor on Delevan Drive near 34th Street.

According to San Diego Fire and Rescue spokesperson Maurice Luque. A 5000 gallon propane tank used to fuel vehicles and forklifts at the company somehow started leaking and caught fire, causing the explosion, police said.

yup
MtnBiker2005 - thank you very much for the link. I was not able to record the video yesterday - but I got it today thanks to you. (News10 has a 30 minute video on their website - very unique).

Just a couple of comments -

1. I dont think the tank exploded - if it did, I bet the bld would have been leveled.

2. I think the procedure for handling a burning propane tank is to cool the tank, but to allow the flame to continue burning. You don't want the flame to cause the metal of the tank to fail, but you also do not want leaking propane all throughout a city neighborhood.

3. At the end of the report, they said that the tank had stopped venting. I am sure that everyone was thankful for that.

4. Question - How much of a blow torch will a leaking 300 gallon tank of propane cause? Answer - Approximately 30 feet per the video (maybe 20 feet - I know it was above the roof line)

5. I dont that the sparkles in Snapple are considered explosive - but I could be wrong. :)

6. It was a 2 alarm fire, and there probably is an copy of all the radio traffic in the San Diego Fire feed at radioreference.com
