Well, the Fire watches were busy this weekend! Anybody else listening to them? Last summer they were rpetty busy, but now with the snow cover gone and no rain its pretty dry. I have been listening to the MDNR on their new Statewide digital and thats really great to be able to hear all the different locations...Can't wait until Wis gets their new repeater systen so we can hear the whole state too!

Don't rush them! I don't have a digital scanner yet! :D

There has been a ton of activity here on WDNR "Blue". It was cool to hear the air units helping out as well. I heard them mostly on "Purple" and 122.925.

No activity on "Green", "Yellow" or "White" that I've heard.

I just found a new frequency that I think may be tropo... 172.425. I'm not sure if it's a national park frequency in use near me or if I'm just picking it up from somewhere else. It sure doesn't sound like tropo, though. Units talking to eachother asking where to set up, etc.

That freq might be the US Forest service...will look it up. I hear Nicolet and Chequamanon (SP) all the time. I can hear the towers from the Superior area to all the way over to you...Pretty Cool! :D

I've found a listing that says it's used by the Bureau Of Indian Affairs and that's a possibility. I have to listen to it more to see if I can catch any specifics. On Sunday it was weak but today it was fairly good.

It depends where you are in the state as to what you'll hear on the 4 "mobile relay" channels. The state is broken up into 12 areas which staggers frequency usage to prevent interference between areas.

Update:
I have determined that 172.425 is used by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, possibly in or near Shawano County as the signal is good here in New London.

Today there was activity on WDNR Red (151.430) and Yellow (151.205) as they fought a fire near me somewhere. Lots of aerial spotter activity again on WDNR Brown (151.400) as well as 122.925 (AM).

I just got back from a week in N. and S. carolina...Was getting real warm before we left and got home and snow was falling! Ha! Plenty of rain to soak the woods now!
