Weird Zip Code Scanning

I decided to do a zip code scan (I'm in Oklahoma) and see if I could find something new and when it was loading the full database, I noticed it included Indiana, Florida, and Missouri in addition to Oklahoma and Arkansas. I can understand Missouri being in there...sort of, but any idea why Florida and Indiana?

My guess is you have service types set for companies or businesses that operate in those states. However, while it may load those out of state systems, it won't scan them.

For example, I live in Colorado. We have a statewide trunked system that a majority of public safety systems use. So when I load the system, it loads every site (over 120 of them) but location control causes only the 5 or 6 of the sites to be scanned and the other 100+ sites to not be scanned.

Check your service types and also your range and location control are on.

You have the full database enabled for scanning.
In the menu, select the option for "Select Lists to Monitor"
On that screen, you'll see an option to Set Nationwide Systems

Select that option.

There, you can turn systems that are used in many (if not all) states. Select a category.
With it highlighted, pressing the E (enter) key toggles it between on & off.

Once you've done that, verify that your range setting is for your immediate area, not large enough to get into other states except those close by (Arkansas & Missouri, plus your home state).

Thanks for the replies. I did all of that...range is set at 15 miles and I turned off most of the nationwide services except law enforcement, medical, etc., but seeing it loading Florida and Indiana kind of threw me. You would think, other than randomly loading those and Missouri, it would load other states too. Never had it happen on any other scanner just the SDS200.

Yeah, that's probably best for my sanity. Trying to figure out how to program DMR One Frequency systems may do me in. Scanners have came a long way since I bought my first one which was a Radio Shack 10 channel with crystals.
