Around 11am today I heard Wentzville PD running around the city limits. They kept broadcasting their location and saying 6 bars, or 4 bars etc.. This went on for about 30 mins. I thought maybe they were testing a new radio system, but then I heard one of them on a traffic stop. So Im not sure if it was a new radio system signal check or LoJack.

Anyone else catch this?

I did copy a little bit of this earlier today. All of wentzvilles new police cars are equipped with the roof mounted antennas for LoJack. I believe they are now starting to install the dash mounted Lojack units so that is most likely what the "4 bars" "2 bars" talk was all about. Not sure if they are just testing them out or if they had actually come across a stolen vehicle.

Does this LoJack system have to run exclusively from cars, or can law enforcement mount it in fixed locations?

The reason I ask is because what you describe sounds fairly similar to my 10-77 forum w/ the STL County Police from a while back. The county has this 10-77 equipment in some vehicles, plus it appears they use some fixed towers. I heard them testing the towers before and they were moving across the county, with various towers going "hot" and "cold." Any comments or ideas would be greatly appreciated, as this issue has bugged me for quite some time.

PS Love the new feed MJ :)

This would make perfect sense since the 4 cars I passed on Hwy Z this morning were the new cruisers.

Lojack works on signal triangulation, so it requires a receiver in the cruiser to pick up the signal. Here is a LoJack video detailing how it works.

I'm no expert on LoJack but i believe it works only in cruisers because you have to be "relatively" close for it to pick up on stolen property. However, i can say that Saint Louis County and Saint Louis City have different equipment that works almost like a GPS tracking device when something happens like a bank robbery. If the bank is able to drop one of these devices in with the stolen money they(the police) can then track the movement of it from the dispatch rooms and also in "some"(most likely supervisor or special use) cruisers.

I really have no clue why all the new cars in wentzville would need LoJack installed in them, but its only money i guess.
