Do any of you know if they have their own Radio system? Any frequencies? I just wanted to know if they did. They will start supplying ambulance service on January 1st here in Monterey County after AMR lost their contract with the county due to employees were involved in illegal drug.

Interesting news. I don't see anything pending on the FCC site for Westmed, but I suspect something will show up soon.

How are ambulances dispatched in Monterey County today? I know AMR has their own repeater licensed on Mt Toro on 463.650, and I assume the County still has repeaters in service on the Med channels.

I know Mt Toro is a good site, but I can't imagine it covers everything. Especially down into King City, Big Sur, etc.

Yeah AMR use the MED channels they also have a frequency channel named "South County 464.3000" witch AMR dispatches rigs from Gonzalez-King City. Any repeaters south of King City are on William’s hill Mt Toro is to far cover. AMR has there own dispatched center. From what I heard my dad works for public works here in Soledad he told me that new ambulance will be station with the fire dept. So i'm thinking they might get dispatched by county comm

If you guys want to read why all this is happening here is a link

I found some more info

Vehicle Radio Equipment

government and state frequencies in accordance with the County Inter-operable Plan (to
be developed) and the County Fire Chief’s “Policy on Paramedic Ambulance Use of
Monterey County Fire Frequencies.” (Motorola and Kenwood radios can be reviewed in
detail in Attachment 2 of the CONTRACTOR’s proposal.) CONTRACTOR also agrees
to equip all County emergency ambulances with Nextel 2-way radiophones as a backup
to ensure uninterrupted communications. CONTRACTOR further agrees to offer the
County dispatch center Nextel two-way radiophones as an interface backup.
CONTRACTOR agrees to comply with all applicable FCC regulations.

When I have visited that area a few times a year this has been the system in use:
462.975R 173.8 Ambulance dispatch
463.125R 173.8 Ambulance to hospital
The next time I'm in that area I will listen in to see if the new ambulance service contract has any changes.
