Actually I though 73 was Best Regards - OK, so it's the same thing - Just like how some hams get mad when operators say 73's. Just stay away from listening to the 147.435 Repeater on-line :)

Well, I finally got my technician ticked two months ago, but don't have any equipment yet. I have been listening to our locals for over six months or more, and I love to listen to the morning rides on their way to and from work. Really learn a lot by listening, not only the conversations, but good radio etiquite and habbits from the older folks. Can't wait to goin in!

Listening to the local Net's have helped a lot with recognizing call signs and voices. Listen to two or three different ones each week. That's great too!

Have you looked into Echolink? I use mine via a RF link but it can also be used with a PC as long as you have a microphone for it. It's free and it'll get you on the air with other Echolink connected stations. Where I live, it is my preferred mode of operation. There are only 27 other licensed hams in my county, and by monitoring via my other rigs, I seem to be the only one that's regularly active on any band. There's not even a repeater here.

Congrats on earning your ticket and welcome to amateur radio!

Why not get your ham ticket? It's easy. Here's a link to a ham club near you that has ham radio classes all the time:
