What antenna should I get?

I'm new to all of this and want some advice on what to do next. I recently purchased an ATS25 Max Decoder ii and want to upgrade the antenna. what antenna would cover most of the frequencies this receiver receive. Portable antennas would be preferable but am also wanting to get a base station antenna for my house as well.

In its class, that receiver is not bad, but out of its class, it is not good. (I have one.) But to your question, the receiver might improve using a 50 ft piece of wire antenna *outside*. Any inside antenna is not going to do well with house wiring interference. No whip will make a goodHF antenna indoors (that is why they do not give your better). Outside, away from wiring and structure, an active small antenna can do well--those can even be less that a foot tall. From my over 50 years experience, I do not think there is a real holy grail antenna for what I think you want. Some might argue but I doubt thy really have tried enough good antennas.
