• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hytera and Tait also make DMR tier 3 capable radios as well.

Keep in mind this is feature licensing dependant, but all the above radios are 'capable' of DMR tier 3 operation.

The XPR 6550 is NOT capable of tier 3 operation.

EF Johnson VP8000 is not Tier 3 capable. Now in a year or so that may change as Tier 3 is said to be under development.

Tait, Simoco, Motorola (second gen and newer TRBO radios), Kenwood NX3000/5000 are going to be the main proponents. Maxon supposedly has something lined up as well.

In order for Motorola radios to work on a tier 3 system, the infrastructure and subscribers will need to be licensed for OPEN mode and not Adcantage mode (Advantage mode is the default and locks out any non-Moto radios). Open mode requires VP approval to sell. TT

The XPR7350e/7550e and XPR5350e/5550e have it from the factory, but you need the Radio Management client and server ($$$$$) to access the features. It's possible there's another way, but I haven't yet found it. It can be added to the non-e radios with a license key (EID). I believe you also need firmware greater than a certain version.

Some higher-end Kenwood NX-series will do it; those also need a license key. We have some NX-3300's running nicely on our Selex / Leonardo - based network, which is currently in the testing phase.

We have them in a few conventional simulcast systems, both DMR and P25. Once they're set up, they don't seem to need much tweaking. This is the first time we've used them in a trunked system, they will eventually be replacing a Motorola Connect Plus network, which is end-of-life.
