And not massively over priced like the SDS line. I don't own an SDS, but there's a simulcast trunked system near me I'd like to monitor and can't due to the RF phase of this and that of multiple towers associated with simulcast. My only real option at this point is to use SDRTrunk which I'm not really wanting to do.

What I'd like to see is an SDS type scanner in the package format of the P2 handheld. :)

It does not appear that Uniden is interested in supporting the Scanner Hobbyist anymore. The only changes recently made in their scanner line was a simple re-engineering of a prior scanner. Over that past few years, many have offered good suggestions and ideas to improve the current SDS line. However, little has changed. It appears that other that the WATERFALL upgrade (for more $$) fixes for the glitches and other user improvements are of little concern to Uniden. I would not expect any new scanners that are following the communication technology to be added to the product line. Just my thoughts...

Why not? It's really the only viable alternative to a "massively overpriced" SDSx00 (or a similarly "massively overpriced" Unication pager) for monitoring simulcast systems. Drawback is it's harder to monitor "on the go" with an SDR/laptop/tablet/software

The days of any scanner manufacturer producing new scanners is probably over. Who needs em. I sure don't. And if I did, they are never going to come out with something more full featured than the SDS100/200. And why would they come out with something less featured.

With a lot of agencies moving towards encryption seem like the hobby is slowing down as far as new radios. I'm happy with the SDS series I own one handheld and two base models. How much better can they get? I would love a color display on my 436hp

My is pretty much a paperweight. Occasionally when bored listen to hose draggers and throw and go units since the encryption crap appeared.

I'm not holding out too much hope for new firmware, let alone new hardware.
There will be new firmware for the x36HP and SDS units in the near future, mostly to deal with some Hytera issues, as they were last reported to be in alpha/early beta testing. Other than that, I don't expect much else, except bug fixes. Only time will tell.

We will look at this a year from now, regardless of new systems, but you're probably correct regarding age old need to fixes, but.. you do have that annoying little factor of Whistler being bought and reincarnated.

As I say, "you are probably correct."

New scanner? Hahaha. Looking at the latest release, IF uniden comes out with a new scanner, no P25. That ship has sailed. Look at the latest releases from Icom, Uniden and Alinco, no P25. They already know, encryption is taking over. Why build a P25 scanner when 100% encryption is coming.
