• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Mods, if this doesn't belong here feel free to move it. Kind of an oddball question and I wasn't sure where it would best fit.

I was poking around eBay last night and had a thought. A few of the radios I was looking at (I forget which ones exactly) appeared to have the same or very similar battery contact placement and alignment slots on their batteries. I know the XTS5000/3000 and EF Johnson batteries are interchangeable, but are there any others out there this will use the same charger? Obviously they wont all interchange with different radios the way the XTS5k and EFJ 5100s do but it sure would be nice if there were others that could use the same charger.

Edited to add link to the charger in question in case folks don't have every Moto part number memorized.

Good call. Same with the XPR7550 with an adapter now that I think of it.

It's quite a versatile charger. In addition to natively charging the XTS series, it can also charge the APX models with adapter that Kevin mentioned, as well as the XPR series and APX 900/1000/4000 series with a different adapter. There's also an adapter for the Waris/Professional (HT750/1250/1550) series. The easiest way to get all three adapters at once was to buy the IMPRES battery reader. It will charge IMPRES 2 batteries, albeit not as quickly as a IMPRES 2 charger would. I've got two of them, one of which I wired up an IMPRES display module to.

About the only caveat is the firmware version, IIRC you have to have 3.4 or higher for it to charge APX batteries. I keep a few of them in my cache, all of them are 3.9 version and play nice with everything.

I've got a handful of them but the one I regularly use is at least 3.4. that's what's printed on the bottom but I don't know if it was ever upgraded at some point.

Hmm, I could've sworn that the XTS 2500 was part of the XTS series...
