You never answered the original question - why were you being told to 'study about shortwave'?
Other folks have given you a fairly nice sample of things they listen to. Don't just look at new threads - read the whole thing. You'll learn much more that way.
I will add a few things I listen to when I turn on my 320 - VOLMETs (to check propagation condition), MWARA stations (ditto), every once in a while I'll throw on the HF-GCS stuff and look at some ALE, and sometimes cruise the maritime area for SITOR stations.
There's lots to listen to - so much so, in fact, that you need to decide what you want to hear before you decide how to accomplish that.
