I think amateur radio exams should be a little tougher, but that's just my opinion. :)

From what I have heard, that they are thinking about including a code requirement on the next Extra Exam. I have yrt to still learn CW, but it the "next" thing I will start on, it took me long enough to make Extra though.

The Gordon books are the best. I read the tech book, took the test later that week and only missed 1. Studied the General book for a few weeks and only missed 2. Also the practice tests on the internet are invaluable. Keep taking them until you miss 2 or less or to the point where you are comfortable. Good luck.

That's what I've been trying to do so far! Taking my exam on the 30th!

Do not go into the test session with a "Plan B" (i.e., what if you fail); go in with only "Plan A", and that is to pass the test and be on the air in the near future. This is not arrogance, but rather confidence, which comes from studying the material in a way that works best for you. Also, do not change your answers - many people most often change them from correct to incorrect. Read the question while covering the answers with enough paper to obscure them, and think about how you would answer that question, then see which of the answers most closely matches your thought. Usually two (or three) of the answers are really goofy, and the fourth (not necessarily in that order, of course ;) ) possibility is the real deal.

A bit of help may come from "Uncle Jerry's Law of Abilities", which states that, if I can do it, you can do it. I mention this to my students in every class that I teach.

Very true, failure is NOT an option!
Radio is therefore the radio it must be!

Hi brianearlspilner, you said
What happens if you fail the test? Do they let you retake it again on the same day or at a another time?

Where I live, if you fail, you can try again, if you pay for the test fee again ($15 here), I think you can only test twice on the same test session.

I don't know which test you are taking but if you go in prepared you can pass easy. Study online or with other resources, take lots of free practice test online and learn. You will walk in there confident and smart; you will pass.

Don't expect to guess your way through it...you might be really lucky and pass, but you will not have learned anything. In truth, unless you have psychic abilities, it's almost impossible to pass by guessing the entire test (some of those answer just don't make sense unless you know why).

On the plus side, Where I live, if you pass the tech test, you can try the other 2 tests for free, but you can only fail once and the fun ends.

I have also heard that certain rogue examiners, will cut off a finger for every test missed...I was lucky and passed the first time... still got all my fingers...not looking forward to that Extra test though. :D

Good luck on your test!
