i picked up a Grundig 400 on ebay, and can't really tell the difference between this "older" model and the 400PE...

some background reading shows that Grundig is now less of a German product than an Asian product, as evidenced by their recent bankruptcy filing and merger with Eton...

for those who have owned one: what are the major shortcomings of the "older" 400?

Here is a quote from the Radio Nederland Receiver Shopping List regarding the two radios:

"Electrically, there is no difference between the YB-400 and YB-400PE. A Grundig-brand AC adapter is included, as are stereo ear plugs, wind-up antenna, a re-written owners manual and vinyl carry case. "

Hope that helps.....Alan

I own a 400 PE

I bought one about three years ago and have no complaints with this model.

The only bad thing about it is the number of AA batteries to run this model, it needs 6 batteries to run this model. A similar model is from Sangean, the 505P which runs on 4 AA batteries. As it gets closer to the christmas season, you might find one of these models on sale.
