Does anyone have an idea as to what the best BNC antenna for the PSR-800 would be to receive excellent reception for P25/700 band area coverage as I am currently using a standard rubber duck antenna and the transmissions fade in & out.

Thanks in advance.

I’m wondering what people use in the 700 range that isn’t the Remtronix. I’ve tried it a ton for months and to be honest, it hasn’t been good for 700mhz stuff. Just a very loose example but I was sitting at a location and had it on, picked up one site in the city here. Put the stock antenna back on and was picking up 3 sites. I’ve seen the graph analyzing the antenna and in the 700mhz range I was looking at, it really wasn’t doing much.

So... sorta in the same boat as the poster here, wondering what else is out there that I could try for handheld.

I have a Larsen 700mhz I use when driving that’s great.

I was unable to receive the adjacent county on my SDS100 with the stock antenna until I installed the REM-820S which is the same antenna as the REM-800B except it has a SMA connector and rubber O-ring designed to fit the SDS100. It made a significant improvement on 700 and 800 MHz systems.
That is great, I run one on my 436 hp.

Does anyone know if the WSG-430 Super Gainer Handheld Antenna is a good choice antenna for P25 reception.

Your issue probably isn't the antenna, it's the radio. The stock antenna is helping to attenuate signals from multiple sites that are interfering with each other because it is a wideband, no gain design. The Remtronics is a gain antenna for the 700-800 band, thus is presenting the radio with multiple strong signal paths. The PSR-800 is not designed to deal with simulcast signalling, thus will not perform well in this situation.

That is quite true. It is very possible that you are suffering from simulcast distortion which is very location specific. Using a higher gain antenna may increase your problems. There are reports that the Whistler Legacy Upgrade has improved simulcast performance, but there is no guarantee it will. It all depends on your location. What is your city, county, and state and which systems are you monitoring? Turning on the attenuator may help.

Does the Remtronix 820 model have reasonable performance on 450ish? About half my scanning is in that range and half is 700/800 MHz? I have a few frequencies in VHF High and air and but not a lot. Thanks for any thoughts. Using SDS100 in large urban area.

The new Broward Co P25 system is entirely Phase 2. You must have firmware version 1.7 or later in your scanner to receive it. I would update to the latest version. If anyone has an upgraded PSR-800, I would appreciate your comments on improving simulcast performance, especially on P25 Phase 2 systems.
