I was searching on the FCC web site & found a license for "Public Safety 4940-4990 MHz Band"licensed for the city I live in. I read more on the application & it said that the city can ANY of the frequencies in that band.Is used for voice or data or something else?

4.9 GHz (as it commonly referred to) is reserved primarily for Public Safety use. This typically is used for point to point and point to multipoint data. This wireless networking can connect multiple locations or even vehicles with high-speed voice, data or video.

"BIG BROTHER" IS watching....LOL!

This band can be used to set up remote tv cameras to "monitor" traffic. In other words, if you run a stop light and the "operator" is watching, it's video taped, he gets YOUR license plate number, and you get a 'ticket" without being pulled over, LOL! This means the "City" doesn't have to have as many police officers and the ones "working" can spend more time at the doughnut shoppe, LOL! Jest kiddin' officers.

Respectfully,

Isn't this the band that the NYPD uses to send back their CCTV images? Last I heard 4.9 GHz was the best guess.

Ya, that's what it's used for.

Video is just one of many things it can be used for. It has 802.11-like applications, point to point links for radio sites, broad band mobile data systems, and on and on.
