What scanner are you using?

I'm looking at getting a new scanner. What scanners are the rest of you using? I listen to Lake Tahoe, Douglas, Carson, and Reno/Sparks metro area. Will most likely get another handheld scanner.

Well, I know at least one guy in your area that uses a Pro 95 I too use a pro 95, as well as a DJ X-10 when I need a handleld. If I were to buy a new handheld trunker I would probably get a 296. I would not buy any radio unless it had Alpha tags. trying to memorise all those TGs is just too hard.

I will tell you what, I love my Pro-96 it is by far and away the best radio I have ever bought!!

I use a BC-780xlt base scanner, works like a champ. Can pick up CDF's Lassen-Modoc Unt easily, from my home in carson city.

i use aro95 a lot in the car and a 96 the state police here in mi. are apco 25 also take a look at the 296.

I'm using the Pro-95 here in Carson City, works like a champ.

Carson is 15x Mhz
The State is 800Mhz Analog EDACS
Washoe County is 800 Mhz EDACS

All listenable with the Pro-95.

Digital isn't in the area just yet and probably won't be for a while, unless the State ditches their system to go for something better and that would most likely infuriate the natives.

well i guess you are in good shape with no digital i see they listed the freqs for monroe county mi. also apco 25. maybe its time to move west.

Have a PRO-96 and a couple of PRO-2067s. A BC-796D is on the wish list; need to increase my financial base (i.e. make some good sales on eBay) before that happens...

I have a BC-246T,a BC-245XLT and a BCT-8 here in Carson. I monitor the local counties as well as the NV Shared System and Washoe System. The new BC-246T has a problem cutting off some of the EDACS systems, but Uniden is aware of the problem and says they are coming out with a fix sometime.

I am using a Pro95 and am very happy with it. By the way, this is pretty indestructible. The only thing I do not like about it is that it will only scan 2 trunked systems at once. But other than that, it's great.

I love my Pro-95. It's great, and since I have the PC Programming cable, I don't have to mess with hand programming. The reception is good, and like someone above said, it's virtually indestructable. I liked it so much that i bought another one. I also have a pro-94 that works pretty well, but i'd recommend the 95, especially since theyr'e on sale at radioshack for $100.

The 2051 and bct-8 are also nice but you said that you want alphanumeric. I have some scanners that are dedicated to channels so i don't have to worry about memorizing talkgroups.

I'm using a Pro95 and have to agree with Mr. Norton about the Alpha Tags. Plus, this scanner is almost indestrustable. I dropped mine on an asphalt parking lot about a year ago and it still works great. And people say Radio shack stuff is low quality.

I 'm thinking about picking up a digital one as i suspect that when Metro goes to a trunked system, I need it.
