My friends and I vacation in Mercer county several times a year
We are from charlotte NC and I use a unication G4 to monitor
Our digital 800mhz p25 trucked system

I see wv SIRN is a 400mhz p25 and my unication will not operate
So my question is what scanner would be best suited to monitor this system?

Most any P25 scanner should work well. I have a variety of both Whistler/GRE and Uniden and they both work well. The Whistlers seem to do patches better in the rare chance they are used.

I've had good results with the Uniden 436. The entire SIRN system is pre-programmed, and you just specify your location and the scanner will monitor nearby sites.

The SIRN is Phase 1 so you could get a used Phase 1 scanner if you wanted to save money and use it only for SIRN or other Phase 1 systems. Or any Phase 2 capable scanner would work.
