The answer is none - most wide banded receivers (like the AOR8600, VR5000) make compromises in their HF performance - they're either easy to overload or have poor selectivity (though if memory serves the 8600 can have Collins filters installed, but that's only a small piece of the pie...). Keep in mind that we're calling receivers like this, and the classic Icom receivers such as the R7000, R7100 and R8500 wide banded recievers; they are not scanners, they are receivers that happen to scan.
Your much better bet is to get a good used desktop such as the recently discontinued Yaesu FRG100, the Icom R75 (a popular choice), Kenwood R5000 (also been discontinued for a while now). To learn about the various models, and how they perform, do yourself a favor and get a copy of Passport to World Band Radio - they have extensive receiver reviews. Our SWL and Utility wiki pages have several links with reviews.
Basically any good quality desktop HF receiver with good stability, SSB capability and good selectivity will do the job. Among the HF computer driven radios, the RX320 is an excellent choice. I understand many like the Icom R1500, R2500 or the older PCR1000 (but beware of the 1000, as too much of an antenna will almost certainly overload it); all 3 could get HF Fax as well.
In short, decide what it is you want to be able to do, what features you want, and do your homework before you buy. 73s Mike
