New to scanners

I am in the Custer County in Western Oklahoma (Clinton, OK) I am looking for a digital scanner P25 compatible that will receive police, emergency, fire out here.

Is there a used scanner store i can check out? Is there a cost effective new one? What are my options?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Custer County, OK uses DMR so you can look at Radioreference classified adds.
Project 25 AKA P.25 Digital is not cost effective, and you are better off purchasing a brand new one. Do you want a base (fixed) or handheld scanner?

The highway patrol Clinton is P25 and unencrypted. There are some agencies using encryption on the Oklahoma P25 trunked system. Have a look here at anything you might want to listen to as far as P25. Anything that displays DE will not be able to be monitored.

As Bob mentioned above, Custer uses a good amount of DMR. So if you get a Uniden scanner, new or used, and it does not have the DMR upgrade installed, you would need to purchase it.

Ya he's in good shape out there it looks like, it's all either DMR or FMN which is pretty easy to monitor. He just needs to make sure that any scanner he gets is DMR capable, and get it programmed up.

Someone has a listing now of some stuff for sale from an SK (someone that passed away) and he's got a 996P2 on there for sale at a pretty good price I think If it's still around in a day or so, I might jump on it actually. He needs to get the one that has DMR listed however, he's got several listed.
