Hello all! I've unfortunately been out of the loop since UPS lost my old GRE when I sent it in to Whistler for reprogramming.
I miss my scanner but not sure what to get now. I'm in Fountain Hills, AZ, about 30 mins northeast of Phoenix
Thank you for any help,
Daniel. W3HOG

Let's have a look at the database, shall we?
Seeing lots of simulcast sites in Maricopa County. You'd be best served by a Uniden SDS100 (handheld) or SDS200 (base) to overcome simulcast distortion you'll likely face depending on your location relative to two or more towers on any given simulcast

The only other thing would be the Unication G4 or G5, "IF" he's only interested in the simulcast sites. Of course that opens a whole different can of worms. Without opening that can however yes I'd agree the SDS series is the way to go.

Not to split hairs but the OP did specify "scanner" ;)
Yes he did, and you are correct. It is not a scanner. They are however the reason I'll never listen to my simulcast system on a scanner again on my system i monitor. But I digress. You are correct sir.

I did not see the key question asked - what are you interested in scanning? Maybe VHF/UHF ham? Other stuff?

Portable or fixed base station?

If fixed base station then it might make sense to hold off on the expensive scanner and try a SDR setup to see if the simulcast distortion will be a problem and then make a better choice on what scanner you need.

I run a BCD996P2 and a SDR running DSD+ Fastlane or Unitrunker and have very little trouble with simulcast distortion on a very busy P25 system. (Orange county and Orlando simulcast)

As they say your mileage may vary.
