What to do with a PRO-96 Scanner

I inherited a PRO-96 Scanner. I'm wondering if this is technology I should just recycle or if there is a value to someone. The owner's name and phone number shows up when turned on and a local resale shop wouldn't take it unless I could clear the personal information. FYI the phone number is disconnected and the owner deceased.

If you let me know your city or town, county, and state, I can check the database to see what the scanner is capable of monitoring in your area.

Welcome! The PRO-96 is an older but good radio. Why not use it? Radio Reference is the best online source for radio frequencies. Find your location in the database using the link below, see what there is to listen to in your area, and program in some frequencies. If you need help with programming the radio or have other questions, post them here. There are many knowledgeable users on this forum that will help you. You might just find a new, exciting hobby!

Thank you, I don't want a new hobby. This was his hobby. Maybe I should have just asked: how do I delete a name and phone number from the scanner? I downloaded the manual, and I don't see these directions.

I believe that initializing the scanner will erase the info on the opening screen, but it will also erase the programming.

initializing your scanner Initializing your scanner clears all information stored in your scanner’s working memory. Initialize your scanner only when you are sure it is not working properly. V-Scanner memory is not affected when you initialize the scanner.

1. Turn off the scanner, and turn it on again. First, the DSP boot version, and then Welcome To Digital Trunking appears.

2. Press 0. The following messages appear on the display: System Tests Select Test Exits if no Key Press

3. Press 1. The following messages appear on the display: Factory Init Erase Memory ENTER if Yes CL to EXIT

4. Press ENT. The following messages appear on the display: Initializing Clr Main Mem V-Scan is OK Please Wait

5. Do not turn off your scanner until the initialization is complete. When the initialization is complete, M000 and Bank 0 Ch 00 appear on the display.

Understood. That radio does have value to a hobbyist or newbie, so don't recycle it! Good luck, and I hope you can get the radio into the hands of someone that will appreciate and use it

My previous post was for the PRO-2096. Here is the initialize procedure for the PRO-96. Be advised, it will erase the programming.
